Through investigation, Montgomery County detectives identified Karla Vanessa Martinez as a suspect and determined that Martinez had taken her 8-year-old granddaughter, Miriam Garcia, on Saturday, March 25, 2023 to Springfield, TN.
On Monday, March 27, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Martinez, charging her with charges related to the kidnapping. Detectives notified the Springfield Police Department of the abduction and the warrant for Martinez's arrest.
On Thursday, March 30, Martinez and Garcia were located in a parking lot in Springfield, TN. Martinez was arrested and transported to a Springfield correctional facility, where she awaits extradition to Montgomery County, MD.
Garcia was found safe and sound. She has reunited with her family.
