The Thwaites Glacier, known as the 'end of the world' glacier, is melting at an alarming rate. A group of scientists has embarked on a race against time to discover the causes of this phenomenon and theorize about its possible consequences for humanity.

The apocalyptic nickname of the glacier located in West Antarctica is related to its global impact. If it disappears, the ice block could cause a rise of up to three meters in sea level, since it currently functions as a natural dam for the surrounding area. Until now, it had been difficult to study the critical points of the iceberg.

Using a robot nearly four meters long, the expert teams managed to penetrate the ice sheets and analyze the fractures on their surface. The torpedo-shaped vehicle collected images and measurements on the temperature and currents in the water. Although it was found that the melting is slower than projected, experts have raised alarms due to the cracks and irregular formations that the glacier presents.
