From being the best pitcher in New York to being accused of using drugs: Matt Harvey announces his retirement from the Major Leagues

Matt Harvey was considered, 10 years ago, one of the best pitchers in the Major Leagues and even made the top four for the National League Cy Young Award voting with the New York Mets.

But the injuries and the bad choices in his career did not allow him to be in the elite of the MLB and this Friday, May 5, he announced his retirement. at 34 years of age and after 9 seasons in the last 12 years.

Harvey accused of using drugs

Matt Harvey was suspended in 2022 for 60 games after confessing to using drugs in a scandal involving the overdose death of Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs.

Harvey revealed during a trial that he used cocaine and also took percocet, an opioid, since 2019 with pitcher Skaggs. “In baseball, you do everything you can to stay on the field. In that moment, I felt like a teammate that was just helping him get through whatever it was he needed to get through."
