Frederick County, Maryland students can receive free immunizations if they do not have health insurance.
The county health department said it will host immunization clinics from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays from Aug. 1 to Sept. 11, with free shots for uninsured and underinsured students only on Wednesdays.
Advance appointments are required and parents can schedule one by calling 301-600-3342 and requesting an immunization nurse. Children under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a parent, or an adult with a note from a parent, to authorize their child's vaccination.
Students can receive the COVID-19 vaccine, the flu shot, the required Maryland immunizations, and other immunizations suggested by the CDC.
According to Maryland law, all students in kindergarten through grade 12 must be vaccinated. If they do not have the required immunizations by the first day of school, they will not be able to attend classes until they present evidence of having been vaccinated.
“School immunization requirements help protect children by ensuring they are protected against vaccine-preventable diseases. Children who are not vaccinated can transmit disease to others, particularly those who are too young to be vaccinated, or people with weakened immune systems, such as those with cancer," the county health department said in a statement.
