The French Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, considered this Wednesday "very serious" the arrest yesterday in a small town in Alsace, near the borders of Switzerland and Germany, of a 14-year-old adolescent on suspicion of preparing a terrorist action on behalf of the Islamic State (IS).

"It's a very serious situation." Darmanin stressed in an interview with the BFMTV channel before insisting that "the Islamist threat is very strong" and recalling that since 2017 and the first term of French President Emmanuel Macron, law enforcement have disrupted 41 attack projects.

The arrest of the 14-year-old suspect was carried out by agents of the General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI, the secret services) in the town of Rosenau, in the Upper Rhine department.

His profile had set off alerts for days and the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor's Office (PNAT) has opened a preliminary investigation that will try to confirm that he was preparing a violent action and, above all, determine what his objective was.

In the searches that were carried out after his arrest, they found craft artifacts.
