It was learned that among the deceased detainees were two accused of terrorism for the attack against a judicial unit in Portoviejo on Friday, July 7.

The inmates were named Daniel David Perero, Yalember Chiquito, Ángel "Chapulete" Macías and Jorge Eduardo "Chiquito" Arguello. The first two were serving a 34-year sentence for murder and the last two were prosecuted for attacking a judicial unit with an explosive device.

The National Police notified that a grenade was thrown from a street behind the judicial unit while a hearing was being held for the crime of murder. As a result of this incident, three people were injured, including a minor who suffered an injury to one eye, which is why she probably loses her vision.

After the pertinent investigations, the alleged perpetrators of the attack on the Portoviejo judicial office were captured, who were prosecuted on July 8 by the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) on charges of terrorism. The judge in charge ordered preventive detention against the suspects.
