Former soldier stopped massacre in US nightclub

An armed man entered a bar in Colorado, United States, and opened fire, killing five people… however, the massacre could have been greater without the intervention of two people who are already identified as heroes.

The first is Richard M. Ironan ex-serviceman who was in the bar with his family, enjoying a drag show.

The hero noticed the moment the bullets began: while the others ran he “entered combat mode”, charged the attacker, took his firearm and hit him bloodyaccording to a report by The New York Times, which was able to interview him.

I don’t know exactly what I did, I just went into combat mode (…) I just know that I have to kill this guy before he kills us.

Meanwhile, Colorado authorities identified the other hero as Thomas James. They did not want to reveal details of his (or Fierro’s) performance, arguing legal issues.

Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers said he had a chance to speak with Fierro, who said that “saved many lives”according to a report by the Reuters agency.

“I have never come across a person who has engaged in such heroic actions who was so humble about it. He just told me, ‘I was trying to protect my family,’” Suthers said at a news conference.
