The National Atlantic Hurricane Center of the United States (NCH) reported this Thursday that the second tropical depression of the current hurricane season formed in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.46

According to the entity, at 4:00 p.m. (local time), a reconnaissance plane flew over the area, and found winds at flight level in the range of 35 to 40 miles per hour northeast of the center.

"Based on all of the above data, the system has sufficient organization to initiate advisories for Tropical Depression Two, with maximum sustained winds of 30 miles per hour," the CNH said.



Likewise, the Forecast Center of the Cuban Institute of Meteorology (Insmet) issued the first tropical cyclone warning, as the system shows signs of better organization.

According to the Cuban entity, at 5:00 p.m. (local time) its center was located at 28.0 degrees north latitude and 86.6 degrees west longitude, a position located about 615 kilometers northeast of Key West, United States and 700 kilometers north -Northwest of Cabo San Antonio, in Pinar del Río, Cuba.

Likewise, the Insmet indicated that it presents maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts, and its central pressure is 1,007 hectoPascal.

"In the next 12 to 24 hours, this system will maintain little movement, beginning to move slowly south," Insmet said.

He also indicated that there is a chance that the system will gain in intensity and reach the category of tropical storm in the early hours of the morning, although the process will be short and will weaken in less than 24 hours.
