Forest fire destroys 74 hectares of a hill in Mexico | News

The National Coordination of Civil Protection of the Government of Mexico communicated this Wednesday that the forestry teams continue the actions to stop the advance of the fire in the hill of the municipality of Tepoztlán, where 74 hectares of the affected surface are registered.

According to the entity, the region damaged by the fires is located in the state of Morelos, 80 kilometers from Mexico City; where a total of two helicopters from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) and the National Guard were arranged; as well as 399 technicians and forestry brigades to combat the advance of the fire.

“The inhabitants of Tepoztlán are not at risk since such a high impact has not been reported so far, compared to the fires registered in 2021,” said the head of the National Civil Protection Coordination (CNPC), Laura Velázquez.



Likewise, the Mexican authorities reported that 20 percent of the controlled fire was reached at noon this day, after the fire was reported at 04:00 (local time), in the town of Los Correderos with wind gusts of more than 15 kilometers per hour, on the Tepoztlán hill.

It should be noted that the country’s National Guard notified that the person responsible for the raging fire was arrested after lighting the bonfire that started the fire.



“We thank the government institutions for the coordinated efforts to safeguard our natural areas; Right now, the first valuation flight is being carried out,” said the Governor of Morelos, Cuauhtémoc Blanco.
