Five former police officers arrested for beating a black youth to death
Five former police officers from the town of Memphis, Tennessee, are in custody and face various criminal charges for having beaten to death Tire Nichols, a young African-American who was arrested for an alleged traffic violation, according to official records consulted by EFE.
The defendants, all African Americanwere expelled from the police force last week, after the authorities determined that they were directly responsible for the death of the 29-year-old, who took three days to die from his injuries.
The prosecutor in charge of the case is expected to appear in a few hours to announce the charges, including second-degree murder, according to CNN.
Tennessee law punishes this crime with up to 60 years in prison.
A video The arrest report, which has already been shown to the victim's parents, will be made public this week or next.
The boss of the police of Memphis, Cerelyn Davis, asked the citizens that if they are going to manifest do it peacefully, anticipating the response you will have when watching the video.
“I think they will feel the same way the Nichols family felt. I think they will be outraged by the disregard for basic human rights, since our police officers have sworn to do the opposite of what happened in the video. I hope our citizens will exercise their First Amendment right to protest to demand action and results. But we need to make sure our community is safe during this process," Davis said.

Ben Crumpa lawyer representing the victim's family, said the images show the five agents attacking the young man with electric shocks and pepper spray. The beating lasted about three minutes.
"What we can tell you is that the video is appalling, it's infamous, it's deplorable," Crump told a conference.
