Father of fighter Jorge Masvidal arrested for shooting a man: What happened?
The father of UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal was arrested on the night of Thursday, May 5 after he shot a subject inside a house of his son in South Florida, according to local media reports.
Jorge Masvidal Sr., 67, was arrested on second-degree murder charges after firing a firearm. after a strong discussion with a person. The victim has been identified as Luis Leoncini, who was injured in the arms and had to be taken to a local hospital, where he is stable, local media reported.
âThe alleged shooter in this case also stated along with the victim that they were in a heated argument, it turned into an argument and that discussion escalated to the point where the shooter shot the victim," Miami-Dade police spokesman Chris Thomas said in a statement picked up by the outlet.
After investigations at the scene of the event, police officers found a .38 caliber revolver weapon inside a cabinet located in the kitchen of the former UFC, who was not in the house at the time of the shooting.
The fighter's father was booked into a Florida jail early this Friday and has been fined $10,000. Masvidal retired from mixed martial arts in April and finished his career with a record of 35 wins and 15 losses.
According to the ESPN channel, Jorge Masvidal emigrated from Cuba to the United States in 1971 and in 1989 was arrested for drug trafficking, which meant that he spent 18 years in prison.
