F1: Verstappen espera mayor competencia en 2023 | Tuit
Max Verstappen, piloto en la escudería Red Bull se encogió de hombros luego de que sugirieran que es el favorito para conseguir su tercer campeonato consecutivo de la Fórmula Uno, a lo que respondió que la máxima categoría necesita una batalla más reñida que la del año pasado, aunque tiene la intención de ser mejor que nunca.
El neerlandés ganó 15 de las 22 carreras del calendario 2022, que fue la mejor temporada de su equipo hasta la fecha, con su compañero, el mexicano Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez añadiendo dos victorias más a esa lista.
La subcampeona Ferrari, ganó cuatro carrera, mientras que Mercedes, tercera en la clasificación, se anotó únicamente una victoria el año pasado.
Tras la presentación de su nuevo monoplaza, el RB19, en Nueva York, Verstappen comentó:
Como piloto, siempre intentas mirarte a ti mismo, qué puedes hacer mejor e intentas volver más fuerte cada año, aunque a veces sea una tarea difícil.
Al ser preguntado por sus ganas de que Mercedes vuelva a la lucha, con el siete veces campeón del mundo Lewis Hamilton y la joven promesa británica George Russell, Verstappen respondió:
Creo que por el bien de la F1 siempre quieres que los equipos estén súper cerca. Pero considero que ya estuvo bastante cerca el año pasado. Creo que como equipo hicimos muchas cosas mejor que los otros equipos y por eso la diferencia de puntos también fue tan grande (…) Pero en este deporte todo el mundo quiere ver una contienda por el título con varios equipos implicados.
Ferrari por su parte ha cambiado de jefe de equipo desde el final de la temporada pasada, con Mattia Binotto siendo sustituido por Fred Vasseur, mientras que Mercedes perdió a su director de estrategia James Vowles, que se ha ido a Williams como su nuevo director.
Sobre mantener su dominio y ser para muchos expertos el favorito a finalizar en la cima de campeonato por tercera ocasión consecutiva, Verstappen concluyó:
Realmente nunca pienso en ser el favorito porque tienes que seguir trabajando, tienes que seguir mejorando porque si no te alcanzarán y te superarán.
