F1: Red Bull advisor apologizes after offensive comments against 'Checo'
The former driver and team advisor Red Bull, Helmut Markoexplained that his statements about the Mexican pilot Sergio 'Checo' Pérezof which I assure that “it is not always concentrated” because it is “Latin American”, in reality what I wanted to say is that ““A Mexican has a different mentality.”.
In statements to the medium Oe24and collected by Europa PressMarko clarified:
I did not mean that. I meant that a Mexican has a different mentality than a German or a Dutchman. But who knows, maybe it's controlled.
The Austrian surprised this Monday after criticizing the man from Guadalajara for his “concentration problems” and “fluctuations” in his classification results, stating that: ““He's South American and he's just not as focused in his head as Max (Verstappen) or Sebastian (Vettel).”.
These comments were harshly criticized on social networks, as they join a list of statements by Marko relating 'Checo's' performance to his nationality.
“Pérez is not consistent, he is not always focused. She is over 30 years old and is expecting her fourth child. Therefore, he also has other interests, so we have to see what happens next,” added the Red Bull advisor about the Mexican driver, questioning his continuity in the teamdespite also having a contract next season.
Regarding all of the above, in a statement he declared: “I would like to apologize for my offensive comment and I want to make it absolutely clear that I do not believe we can generalize about people from any country, any race, any ethnicity.“.
I was trying to point out that Checo has fluctuated in his performance this year, but it was a mistake to attribute this to his cultural heritage.
