An engine failure barely in the lap number 9left the driver from Guadalajara out of the race, cutting short the possibility of spinning a fourth visit to the podium, now in the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve of Montreal.
Perez Mendoza arrived in Montreal with his best run in Formula 1, by finishing in second place in Barcelona. This good performance was confirmed a week later, when he won the Monaco Grand Prix, in one of the most historic races in motorsport.
But something else was missing, by extending his positive streak in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, at the end of the second position, result with which he also stormed the second place in the drivers’ standings.
