Every minute 7 new infections in San Diego County

SAN DIEGO.- The pandemic raged to unprecedented levels with the Omicron variant in San Diego County where new infections already exceed seven per minute, and deaths are approaching one every hour.
About 90 percent of the new infections reported are positive cases by Ómicron, reported an official with the Health and Human Services Agency in the county, Wilma Wooten.
This is a scarce month after the county registered the first case with that variant on December 8.
Almost 3 out of every ten tests to detect Covid have a positive result; 27.9 percent.
And the infections continue to increase. Ómicron has been able to infect people who were vaccinated but not completely, although it especially infects those who have not been vaccinated.
Scientists in Boswana, where Ómicron emerged in South Africa, say that the new variant is at least 4 times more contagious than Delta and that it can infect some of the people who, although vaccinated, are not fully vaccinated, but especially those who are not have been vaccinated.
Half-vaccinated people who contract the Omicron virus get Covid but with milder symptoms. On the other hand, the unvaccinated ones are at risk of hospitalization and death.
The County of San Diego reports that 78.5 percent of the people now eligible for vaccination –2 million 470 thousand residents – have already been fully vaccinated, and together with those who have been vaccinated with at least one dose add up to 88.6 percent, which there are almost 2 million 788 thousand people.
In San Diego County, almost 360 thousand people remain without being vaccinated and it is in that community where Ómicron causes the most damage
