EU defends judicial autonomy; Ken Salazar meets with Norma Piña

The president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, Minister Norma Piña, and the US ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, yesterday Thursday led the closing of the Dialogue on Extradition, Shared Challenges: Mexico and the United States of the Department of Justice and the International Bureau of Counternarcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.

During the event in which federal judges and magistrates participated, the diplomat spoke about the democratic values ​​that unite both nations.

“We recognize the importance of the rule of law, the application of justice and the independence of the Judiciary.

“My recognition also goes to the defenders and the Judiciary. Litigating is not easy, and reaching fair decisions is a big task,” he stated.

In this sense, he highlighted the work on justice, through the Bicentennial Framework on issues such as carrying out extradition processes against alleged criminals.

During the meeting, progress was made in the formation of the Judicial Guides on Extradition Matters.

“They are counting on us to develop the capacities of all actors in the justice sector.

“With collaboration and joint actions, our countries send a clear message: those who violate our communities, bring them fentanyl poison or traffic people, will face the law,” Salazar said.
