EU condemns offense against Koran committed in Sweden | News
The European Union (EU) condemned this Saturday the act of burning a copy of the Koran carried out days ago in the capital of Sweden, Stockholm, at the beginning of the Muslim festival of Eid al Adha, and considered it an offensive, disrespectful act. and a provocation.

Through a statement, the bloc of 27 nations stated that the burning of this or any other sacred book "is an act that does not reflect the opinion of the European Union."
He added that it is an "offensive, disrespectful and, clearly, it is a provocation" gesture. In addition, he called for calm and the cessation of attacks on the diplomatic headquarters of the Scandinavian country, particularly in Iraq.

The statement added: "These manifestations of racism, xenophobia or any related act of intolerance have no place in Europe and it is even more deplorable to have occurred in the middle of such an important celebration."
The EU also supported "freedom of religion, belief and expression, both at home and abroad," and urged all people to stand together for mutual understanding and respect.
After the burning of the Koran, which occurred last Wednesday, nations such as Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Iran, Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates, among others, expressed their strong rejection of what happened to Stockholm.
Another similar event took place last January, on that occasion in front of the Embassy of Türkiye in Sweden. That event also sparked a wave of protests abroad.
