“What we are talking about is a big storm. This is considered an extreme weather event. That means it's dangerous. It also means that it is potentially deadly," said the official at a press conference.

According to authorities, among the counties that will be affected by snowfall are Buffalo, Watertown, Erie, Genesee and Niagara, where more than 12 centimeters of snow per hour is forecast to fall.

Weather services warn that winds could exceed 55 kilometers per hour, conducive to blizzard conditions, and will cause road closures, power outages and damage to homes.

For this reason, Hochul urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to regions affected by the snowstorm.

“Parts of Western New York, the Finger Lakes, Central New York, and the North Country are about to receive their first snowstorm of the season, which means we need everyone in these affected regions to be prepared for travel conditions. dangerous," he stressed.

The New York Department of Transportation announced the closure of eight highways, as well as the deployment of more than 3,000 supervisors and operators who will respond to any incident.
