Elton John to sing at White House event

The White House will be a concert hall on Friday night for a performance by British star Elton John. The event is titled “A Night When Hope and History Rhyme,” a reference to a Seamus Heaney poem that President Joe Biden often quotes.

The South Lawn presentation is hosted by A+E Networks and the History Channel. According to the White House, the audience will include teachers, nurses, gay rights activists and others.

Biden and his wife Jill Biden are expected to say a few words.

Workers have been setting up a stage on the White House lawn in preparation for the concert.

Although stars like Elton John avoided the White House when Donald Trump was president, Biden has occasionally had guest musicians. Most recently, James Taylor sang several songs at an event last week celebrating the passage of laws dealing with prescription drug prices, climate change and other issues.
