Electric cars in 2040 will avoid high polluting emissions, Green

Within the framework of International Clean Air Day, Jesus Sesma Suarezleader of the Green Party of Mexico City, recalled the initiative that seeks for the country to achieve a vehicle fleet at one hundred percent electric cars by the year 2040, so it is expected that in 2050 there will no longer be cars that run on gasoline.

The initiative, supported and approved by the Commission for Environmental Preservation, Climate Change and Ecological Protection of the capital's Congress, has the objective of reducing carbon and greenhouse gas emissions (CyGEI) and improving air quality in the City from Mexico.

The proposal responds to the Mexico City Climate Action Program (PACCM) 2020-2026, which aims to avoid the excessive use of transportation with high polluting emissions, in exchange for sustainable alternatives, improvement of infrastructure and available technologies that aim at electromobility.

The legislator highlighted the advantages of electric cars, such as long-term economic savings, lower maintenance needs, lower energy loss and the use of cleaner and quieter technologies.

He Green Party of Mexico City recalled that in the search for a clean environment and air, the legislative body on the matter approved the addition of an article to the Law on Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change and Sustainable Development for the Mexico Cityso that the Local Climate Change Strategy sets as a goal the development of incentives and measures that contribute to an accelerated renewal of the vehicle fleet.
