The news was confirmed by the General Secretariat of Communication of the Presidency, to which it was announced that, in addition, President Guillermo Lasso accepted the resignation of the official.

According to the source, in the letter of resignation, Moncayo thanked Lasso for his appointment and assured that "at crucial moments that overwhelmed the Ecuadorian nation, it was subjected to the brutal attack of organized crime and the open political conspiracy of related parties and movements," which he called an "authoritarian project".

In this same sense, he pointed out that "considering that my advisory function has been fulfilled, I allow myself, with the greatest respect, to present my irrevocable resignation to the entrusted function."

Moncayo was appointed as Government Advisor for National Security on April 26, for which he held the position for less than two months.

Moncayo's resignation also comes at a time when the country is headed for presidential and legislative elections, scheduled for August 20.

These elections arose as a result of President Lasso invoking the so-called "cross death" last May, an exceptional constitutional procedure that allowed him to dissolve Parliament and force the extraordinary call for elections to govern through decrees until the new Legislative Assembly is constituted.

With the "cross death" Lasso avoided the possibility of being dismissed in the Legislature, which last May was preparing to vote a motion of censure against him, accused of alleged embezzlement in a state company.
