According to the entity, the general director Venancio Alcántara ordered an investigation that revealed that the agent Juan Ramón Rodríguez García had direct responsibility in the incident of a child clinging to the bars of a moving migration vehicle while a woman, presumably his mother , grabbed him from the inside.
The official statement stresses that the agent's action "violated the detention, driving, transfer and deportation protocol implemented by the institution, which must always be respected."
Witnesses of the incident, which occurred in the east of Santo Domingo (capital), spread the video on social networks, for which Internet users showed indignation and questioned the actions of the Dominican DGM.
In this sense, the entity noted that later the agents "decided to immediately get the woman with the child down (from the vehicle) and grant them their freedom, showing a humanity that had been lacking at first."
For his part, the general director of the DGM stressed that “any agent who violates our rules will be removed from the institution. Whoever engages in similar actions will have to face the consequences that this entails.”
