Around 1,000 people, victims of forced displacement in southern Mexico due to the violence generated by criminal groups, returned to their homes in the state of Chiapas on Thursday.

Upon returning to their homes in the municipality of Frontera Comalapa, on the border with Guatemala, the displaced demanded greater security from the Mexican government to prevent further displacement.

The return took place in six military trucks and the people were guarded by Civil Protection agents, the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) and the National Guard who were in charge of escorting residents of the Nueva Independencia, Nueva Libertad and Flores communities. of the Grijalva.

The return of the displaced took place after 1,500 military agents will take control of the municipality of Frontera Comalapa on Wednesday.

According to security sources, the clashes in the state of Chiapas were carried out by alleged members of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel and the Sinaloa Cartel, a situation that caused the displacement of at least 3,000 people.

Human rights defense organizations have indicated that from 2022 to date there has been a forced displacement of some 8,000 people due to violence.
