Director suspended and investigated
After becoming aware of the existence of a shooting range at a high school in San Luis Potosíthe state educational authorities began a investigation through which they requested a detailed report to the school director, who confirmed its existence and explained why it had been installed.
In the report presented by the director of the Ricardo Flores Magón school to the Secretary of Education of the State Government (SEGE) she indicated that the target shooting range was installed in February during the last school year as part of a kermes organized by the student society and whose theme revolved around fair games.
The school director added that the Money collected from the use of the shooting range was used to purchase teaching materials.
Parents of students who attend said secondary school denounced the existence of the shooting range and called on the educational authorities to address the matter, since they considered that they agreed that this facility "normalizes violence."
After the report received, the Department of Prevention and Attention to Learners of the SEGE determined remove the high school director from her duties as a precautionary measure while the investigations are carried out and until they are concluded.
"The SEGE reiterates that it will always act in the best interest of children, safeguarding the physical, emotional and psychological integrity of the students and reiterating the pronouncement of non-violence in schools, as an instruction from the state government," he pointed out.
