Organizaciones del Reino Unido instaron a los think tanks del país a ser más transparentes sobre sus fuentes de financiación, luego de que se revelara que algunos recibieron en 2021 más de un millón de dólares en donaciones provenientes de Estados Unidos, dieron a conocer este viernes medios británicos.

“Garantizar la transparencia sobre quién financia nuestra política es esencial para la confianza pública en cómo funciona nuestra democracia”, señaló el jefe de investigación de Transparency International UK, Steve Goodrich.

De acuerdo con el informe que recoge los datos de 2021, se incluyen entre los beneficiarios de los colaboradores norteamericanos el grupo de expertos Policy Exchange, el cual apoyó en la concepción de fuertes políticas de inmigración.

“Es particularmente preocupante que aquellas organizaciones con los arreglos de financiación más opacos son aparentemente las que obtienen la mayor audiencia de los ministros”, afirmó Goodrich.

En este sentido, el titular llamó a que declare sus fuentes de financiación y sea transparente sobre su gobernanza cualquier grupo de expertos que busque influir en el desarrollo de políticas.

A su vez, el director del grupo de presión Unlock Democracy, Tom Brake, el cual aboga por una mayor transparencia de los think tanks, resaltó la necesidad “urgente” de revelar las fuentes de financiación de los entes británicos debido a su capacidad para configurar importantes directrices.

“Algunos think tanks ejercen una gran influencia sobre el gobierno. Por esa razón, necesitamos entender quién los respalda financieramente y cuál podría ser su agenda. No son espectadores inocentes”, destacó.
