According to the latest update from the Office of Risk and Disaster Management (BNGRC), the meteorological phenomenon caused around 55,000 displacements.
Last Saturday Batsirai entered Madagascar in a sparsely populated coastal area 150 km long, with winds of 165 km/h. Then she moved west, where she caused floods that devastated the rice fields in the center of the country.
Due to the effects caused in the agricultural sector, a crisis is predicted that will exacerbate the complex food situation in the country.
For its part, Antananarivo did not suffer mishaps, which helped ensure that the balance of human losses was not more unfavorable.
According to local media, Mananjary continues without electrical and hydraulic fluid since the arrival of the first hurricane-force winds.
During the next few days, forecasts point to the cyclone heading south without entering continental Africa, after having entered the Gulf of Mozambique.
