The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, summoned this Friday the countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) to fight to preserve unity and solidarity and change the international order.

During his speech at the meeting of foreign ministers within the framework of the XXII Political Council of the entity that takes place in the US city of New York, the Cuban foreign minister highlighted the need to face the multidimensional crisis plaguing the planet.

“An increasingly interdependent world demands urgent joint action in the face of big, old and new problems. We do not see a solution to them without changing the international, dangerous, unjust and unsustainable order that we suffer from and we call for a united struggle for that purpose, ”she stressed.



The government representative of Cuba also referred that the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated inequalities, exclusion, extreme poverty, food insecurity and foreign debt, to which is added the already devastating effect of climate change. .

“The unusual increase in the prices of raw materials, energy, transportation costs and the difficulties in international chains affect our peoples more and more every day,” he specified.

However, he assured that a more favorable scenario for integration and the defense of sovereignty is envisaged in the region, “as a result of the political and social struggles of our peoples, which creates favorable conditions to launch new cooperation projects.”

At the same time, he denounced that the effects of the blockade imposed by the United States (USA) against his country for more than 60 years have intensified since 2019 and cause deeper damage to the Caribbean island in the spheres of tourism, the price of food and fuel and the deterioration of power generation plants.

The senior Cuban diplomat also explained that the unjustified inclusion of Cuba in the list of State sponsors of terrorism affects the development of financial relations.



In turn, he thanked the ALBA-TCP countries for the solidarity they have shown towards Cuba in the face of the tightening of the blockade, the unilateral measures, and the technical assistance provided by Venezuela and Mexico, as well as the messages received after the accident at the Supertankers in Matanzas, east of Havana (capital), when an electrical discharge struck at the beginning of last August.

Rodríguez reiterated his country’s solidarity with Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia and Caribbean nations members of ALBA-TCP in the face of problems caused by the action of imperialism, and rejected politically motivated legal proceedings against progressive and left-wing leaders, organizations and movements. in the region.

The Cuban foreign minister felt the absence at the meeting of the executive secretary of ALBA, Sacha Llorenti, who apparently did not receive a visa from the United States Government, for which he proposed presenting a protest before the deliberations committee with the host country.

At the end of his speech, the Cuban Foreign Minister urged promoting the strengthening of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the observance of the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace, while extending an invitation to the countries of ALBA-TCP to participate in the next XXII summit in Havana.
