Colorful ceremony opens the curtain on the Qatar 2022 World Cup | News

The inaugural gala of the World Cup of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) Qatar 2022 began this Sunday at the Al Bayt stadium with 60,000 people who witnessed an unprecedented spectacle.

The show featured elements of Qatari culture, such as typical costumes, in a scenery that represents a world map in which all the participating countries are.

The American actor Morgan Freeman and the Qatari youtuber Ghanim al-Muftah participated in the narration and animation of the ceremony, in which all the national teams paraded giant shirts, as well as all the mascots of the World Cups played so far.



South Korean singer Jung Kook and local singer Fahad Al-Kubaisi performed Dreamers, official song for this sporting event. Along with FIFA World Cup Ambassador Ghanim Al Muftah, they encouraged dialogue on inclusion and diversity.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani welcomed and inaugurated the World Cup event stating that “from Qatar, an Arab country, I welcome everyone to this 2022 Soccer World Cup.”

“We have worked very hard, many people who helped us, to make one of the best and most successful championships in the world. We have invested for the good of humanity,” he declared.

After the opening show, everything was ready to kick off the Qatar match against Ecuador, the first match of the FIFA World Cup.
