The Chinese government on Wednesday urged dialogue between the parties to the conflict in Ukraine to reach a ceasefire after the statements of Russian President Vladimir Putin on a mobilization of 300,000 military reservists.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said during a press conference that “every effort leading to a peaceful solution to this crisis must be supported.”

In this sense, the Asian spokesman stressed that the Chinese government’s position regarding the conflict “has always been clear and has not changed” while highlighting the need to “respect the territorial integrity of all countries.”

However, the diplomat emphasized the importance of addressing the “legitimate concerns” of nations, meanwhile, stressed China’s rejection of the sanctions imposed by the West against Moscow.

Last Thursday, Putin met with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Uzbekistan where both sides agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

For his part, the Russian head of state called for this Wednesday “a partial mobilization” in the context of the holding of referendums on the adhesion to Russia of the self-proclaimed people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, in Donbas, and the Kherson regions. and Zaporityia, in southeastern Ukraine.

Accordingly, the head of the Kremlin affirmed that the mobilization of 300,000 reservists is carried out to “guarantee the security of our people and of the people in the liberated territories.”

On the other hand, the West has reacted to Russia’s recent troop movement as a desperate act that will have consequences, while ensuring that the referendum results will not be recognized by the international community.
