China accuses the United States of being the true “empire of lies”
China's foreign ministry declared that the United States is the real "empire of lies"after the US State Department accused Beijing of investing billions of dollars annually in information manipulation activities.
In a report released Thursday, the United States government accused China of manipulating the world's media through censorship, data collection and the covert purchase of foreign media outlets.

According to the report, China has suffered “significant setbacks” in targeting democratic countries, due to resistance from local media and civil society, despite unprecedented resources dedicated to the campaign.
The report does not take into account the facts and is itself false information,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The US State Department agencies that prepared the report "they were the source of false information and the command post of 'cognitive warfare'"stated the Chinese ministry.
"Facts have repeatedly shown that the United States is the true 'empire of lies,'" he added.
The US report comes amid controversy over China's attempts in recent years to increase the global presence of its government-controlled media outlets. Beijing aims to combat the negative images of China that it believes are propagated by the global media.
China's response comes the same week that the United States revealed that Chinese hackers stole more than 60,000 emails from its State Department.
