The candidate for vice mayor of the La Chorrera district for the Realizing Goals (RM) party in Panama, Jorge 'Chipi' Franco, was murdered this Tuesday after being shot during the night.

According to the Homicide and Femicide section of the Panama Oeste Prosecutor's Office, Franco was killed at the entrance of his residence where he was surprised by subjects who were traveling in a vehicle.
The Panamanian politician was transferred to the Nicolás Solano Hospital where his death was confirmed as a result of the shots received.

For its part, the Public Ministry announced the opening of an investigative process to clarify the circumstances of the event and determine those responsible for the homicide.
Franco was running mate with the veterinarian, Abdiel Medina, on the bench of former president Ricardo Martinelli, who is running for president in next year's general elections.
Last week, the representative of Belisario Porras and president of the Municipal Council of San Miguelito, César Caballero, was murdered in the Casa Real urbanization, Villa Zaita.
Recent events have raised alarms due to the increase in the highest levels of violence against politicians as protests against the controversial mining contract continue.
