The process of incorporating new member countries into the Brics alliance will be discussed during the next summit to be held in South Africa during the month of August, reported the Russian government spokesman, Dmitri Peskov.

"The Brics summit is scheduled to take place at the end of August and precisely at that event, the process of expanding the group will be discussed," Peskov said in an interview.

He pointed out that to include a new nation, the endorsement of the heads of state of the member countries must be obtained. "On this issue, there are certain aspects of the approaches that need to be coordinated and what would be the best way to expand the economic alliance that currently groups Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa."

"Russia is pleased that more and more countries are showing interest in joining the group," Peskov said.

The Brics, a group currently chaired by South Africa, account for more than 20 percent of global gross domestic product and 42 percent of the world's population. Recently, countries such as Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran and Türkiye have shown interest in joining the body.

At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which ended on June 17, it was concluded that the loss of power of the dollar could happen much faster than estimated if commercial blocs such as the Brics opt for dissimilar strategies to reduce their dependence on the US currency.
