Brasil: Cadenas humanas para salvar niños de inundaciones; Lula visita zonas afectadas

El presidente de Brasil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, sobrevoló este lunes las zonas más golpeadas por las fuertes lluvias que han causado al menos 36 muertos y 40 desaparecidos en el litoral del estado de Sao Paulo.

El mandatario progresista interrumpió sus días de descanso en el estado de Bahía para, acompañado de varios de sus ministros, conocer in situ los estragos provocados por las intensas precipitaciones del pasado fin de semana en varias localidades de Sao Paulo.

“Sobrevolando la región azotada por las lluvias, en Sao Sebastiao. Ahora me reúno” con el gobernador de Sao Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, el alcalde Felipe Augusto y “ministros de nuestro Gobierno para trabajar juntos y enfrentar esta crisis”, afirmó Lula en sus redes sociales.

Más de 500 personas, entre policías, bomberos y miembros de las Fuerzas Armadas, participan este lunes en las labores de rescate e identificación de las víctimas.

El municipio más afectado es Sao Sebastiao, donde se registraron 35 de los 36 fallecidos, de acuerdo con el último balance oficial. La otra víctima mortal se reportó en Ubatuba, también en el litoral de Sao Paulo.

Según el conteo oficial, el fuerte temporal obligó a 1.717 personas a abandonar sus hogares por causa de inundaciones y corrimientos de tierra que han sepultado y dañado viviendas de la región.

Esta catástrofe tiene lugar en medio de las fiestas de Carnaval, durante las cuales las ciudades del litoral de Sao Paulo reciben una gran cantidad de turistas.
