Bookseller meeting ready in the Zócalo
With the participation of authors and illustrators such as Jaime Bayly, María Fernanda Ampuero, Hernán Lara Zavala, Dolores Reyes, Aura García-Junco, Elena Poniatowska, Paco Ignacio Taibo II, Bernardo Fernández BEF and Peter Kuper, the XXIII Zócalo International Book Fair (FILZ) will take place, from October 13 to 22, in the Zócalo of CDMX.
This year, Paloma Sáiz, director of the fair, announced yesterday, 300 publishers will participate and 260 activities will be programmed, of which 124 will be editorial presentations, 34 talks and conferences, 32 concerts, as well as film performances, storytelling, a baby library and an exhibition dedicated to to the Argentine photographer Alex Waterhouse-Hayward.
Sáiz also said that in this edition 17 thousand free copies of books such as: Chilean memoriesby Marc Cooper; Heading southby Ariel Dorfman; Elena Garro. The loss of the kingdom, by Emiliano Ruiz Parra; and Coffee, spies, lovers and Nazisby Taibo II.
However, he was unable to specify what the official budget will be allocated to said meeting, but he insisted that the greatest challenge of the fair is “to try to ensure that culture reaches everyone, that culture and, especially, reading, as an elite thing.”
