Bolsonaro, "against the ropes" after the first session of the trial for electoral abuses in Brazil
Brazil.- Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was left on the ropes this Thursday after the first hearing of a trial in which he is accused of "abuses of power" during the campaign for the 2022 elections, won by the current president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The Public Ministry, which is a party to the process, affirmed in the first of the three sessions reserved for the case by the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) that the abuses "are present in the records" and requested that "the penalty of law”, which would mean stripping Bolsonaro, 68, of his political rights for a period of eight years.
The axis of the accusation is a meeting that Bolsonaro called with fifty foreign ambassadors at the official residence of the Presidency on July 18, 2022, to disqualify the transparency of the electoral system and democracy itself, and that he even ordered it to be broadcast on public television.
