According to YLB, the agreements will be signed throughout the year, with the intention of increasing the industrial production of the resource with Direct Extraction of Lithium (EDL) technology.

“The Sovereign Model for the Industrialization of Lithium in the country was accepted by CATL, the Asian battery giant,” highlighted the vice minister of the portfolio, Álvaro Arnez.

Minister Molina also added that the process is carried out without violating the laws or the Constitution. In this sense, YLB is part of the entire productive chain that includes extraction, industrialization and commercialization.

"This year we are incorporating more agreements (...). The vision is to make agreements with as many companies as possible, so as not to depend on one," said the minister in an interview with local media.

Last January, the YLB company signed an agreement with the Chinese consortium CATL, BRUMP and CMOC (CBC) to start up two lithium carbonate industrial plants in Uyuni (Potosí) and Coipasa (Oruro), each with of 25,000 tons per year, using EDL technology.

The CBC consortium of Chinese origin agreed to invest 1.4 billion dollars to develop both plants.

In this way, Bolivia intends to reach the year 2025 with a production capacity of 65,000 metric tons per year of lithium carbonate.
