In an interview with the BBC, Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, lashed out at his billionaire colleague Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, considering that is wasting money in his quest to reach the neighboring planet.
Gates told the British outlet that he does not believe Musk's mission to colonize the Red Planet is good use of fundsstating that provide vaccines to people in need should be a higher priority.
"It's actually quite expensive to go to Mars"Gates said. “Vaccines can be purchased against measles and saving lives for $1,000 per life saved, so it kind of grounds you, as in – don't go to Mars.”
being Asked if he believed Musk would one day join the club of big givers Like Gates, Berkshire Hathaway's Warren Buffett and Amazon's Jeff Bezos, who have pledged to give away most of their wealth, Gates replied that yes, one day he will be a great philanthropist.
"Yes, I think one day he will be a great philanthropist"Gates said of Musk, conceding: "Obviously, you know, things like Tesla are having a positive impact – even without being a form of philanthropy."
"But at the end of the day, I don't think that, apart from going to mars a few times… I don't think he spends it on himself,” Gates continued. "So yes, one day I think he will join the ranks of philanthropists using their wits."
Musk and Gates had already clashed
In 2022, Musk confirmed that he had turned down an offer from Gates to collaborate in philanthropic efforts to combat climate change, after texts between the two were leaked.
Next, Musk trolled Gates with a tweet in which he compared a photo of the Microsoft co-founder with an emoji of a pregnant man. Musk later said that he was "going from mocking Gates for shorting Tesla while claiming to support action on climate change."
