Aubameyang will not be able to play in the African Cup due to heart problems
Footballer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will not be able to play for the Gabon national team after the player was removed from the national team due to heart injuries after overcoming COVID.
“According to the CAF medical commission, the players Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Axel Meyé and Mario Lemina have just overcome COVID-19 but they will not be able to play this match. The tests showed cardiac injuries and the CAF does not want to take any risk”, assured the Gabonese Federation.
The player was infected days before the African Cup of Nations. He was also photographed at a party in Dubai with several teammates in which they did not respect any of the health protocols.
The Gabon team has four points after two games in the African Cup of Nations. In the first game, they defeated Comoros 1-0, and then got a 1-1 draw against Ghana. Their last game of the group stage will be against Morocco.
Aubameyang is not the only player who has suffered heart failure after having COVID. the canadian side Alphonso Davies will be sidelined indefinitely due to inflammation of the heart muscle that was detected after he recovered from a coronavirus infection.
This was reported this Friday by the Bayern coach, Julian Nagelsmann, at the press conference prior to tomorrow’s game against Cologne.
“In the exam that we do to every player who has had a coronavirus infection, we have detected a slight inflammation of the myocardium. It will not be available for the next few weeks because the inflammation has to heal completely,” Nagelsmann said.
Many players continue to get the virus and suffer from the aftermath of the pandemic that will keep them away from the courts for a while.
Davies was among the numerous casualties due to covid 19 that Bayern had for the last game against Borussia Mönchengladbach. De them Dayot Upamecano, Tanguy Nianzou, Omar Richards, Leroy Sané and Manuel Neuer have returned to training.
