Atletico Madrid condemned on Tuesday the “unacceptable” chants of a “minority” of mattress fans who hurled racist insults at Vinicius Junior last Sunday in the outskirts of the Civitas Metropolitan Stadium, prior to the Madrid derby, for which he will offer his “maximum collaboration” to the authorities to investigate the facts, claim identification and expel “immediately” those who are members of the club.

Atlético de Madrid roundly condemns the inadmissible chants that a minority of fans made outside the stadium. We have contacted the authorities to offer them our maximum collaboration in the investigation and demand the identification of the people who participated in order to proceed with the immediate expulsion of those who are members of the club.

In this way, the mattress box recognized racism as one of the “greatest scourges” of society.

Unfortunately, the world of football and the clubs are not free from their presence. Our club has always been characterized by being an open and inclusive space for fans of different nationalities, cultures, races and social classes and a few cannot tarnish the image of thousands and thousands of athletes who support their team with passion and with respect for the rival.

Over the insults that were heard from part of the fans to the Brazilian winger of Real Madrid, where chants like ‘Vinicius, you’re a monkey’ were sung, the club showed its “enormous rejection” and “outrage”, so they will not allow “any individual” to hide behind their colors to utter racist or xenophobic insults.

At Atlético de Madrid we have zero tolerance for racism, our commitment to the fight against this social scourge is total and we will not stop until we eliminate it. Making clear once again our strongest condemnation of these events, which do not have the slightest justification, we believe that what has happened in the days leading up to the derby is inadmissible.

For this reason, the entity He asked the fans for “sanity” and “rationality”, although he also referred to professionals from different fields who “generated during the week a artificial campaign lighting the fuse of controversy without measuring the repercussion of their actions and manifestations”.

“The pain that the rojiblanca family feels for this event is enormous. We can’t allow that someone can relate our fans with this type of behavior and question our values because of a minority that does not represent us. Our decision is firm and resounding and we will not stop until we expel them because they cannot be part of it“, concluded the statement.
