At least 17 dead and 22 injured leaves traffic accident in China
At least 17 dead and another 22 injured in a traffic accident in Jiangxi province, central China.
The events occurred when a truck driving in dense fog hit a funeral procession in the village of Taoling, belonging to the county of Nanchang.
According to local authorities, the injured were taken to nearby hospitals and the causes of the accident are under investigation.
According to local media citing eyewitnesses, members of a family from the town lined up on the edges of the road leading to the crematorium, which they planned to access the next morning.
While they waited, these people made offerings for the deceased relative, commonly represented in China with small bonfires, and they were unexpectedly hit by the truck in question.
The police investigate the possible causes of the accident, although everything indicates that it was due to a lack of visibility on the part of the driver due to adverse weather conditions.
Because of that, the Nanchang Traffic Police alerted the drivers about the existence of "fog" in the area.
“Please pay attention to the fog lights. Slow down, drive slowly, keep a safe distance from the car in front, avoid pedestrians, and don't change lanes or move forward,” he added.
