El Gobierno argentino le pagará al Fondo Monetario Internacional (FMI) el vencimiento de deuda que operaba este viernes con fondos provenientes de un préstamo realizado por Catar de derechos especiales de giro (DEG), la moneda que emplea el organismo, sin acudir a los dólares de las reservas del Banco Central.

El acuerdo fue negociado por el ministro de Economía argentino y precandidato presidencial, Sergio Massa, con el equipo económico de Catar "en el más absoluto hermetismo", según indicaron fuentes del Gobierno argentino. 



Massa, en el cargo desde hace un año, ya adelantó el lunes pasado que Argentina no usaría "un sólo dólar de sus propias reservas" para hacer el pago al FMI que vencía esta semana. El país debía afrontar este viernes un vencimiento de intereses con el FMI por unos 750 millones de dólares.

Con la cancelación de estos intereses, Argentina evita caer en un incumplimiento en plena campaña electoral nacional.

El FMI anunció la semana pasada un acuerdo preliminar con Argentina para destrabar un desembolso por 7 mil 500 millones de dólares, como parte de la quinta y sexta revisión del programa por 44 mil millones de dólares, del que debe expedirse aún el directorio del organismo.

Los fondos serán desembolsados al país en dos tramos tras las elecciones primarias para elegir candidatos presidenciales que se celebrarán en el país el 13 de agosto.
