Virginia strikes a good balance between affordability, quality of life, and healthcare, ranking high on all three.
WalletHub highlights the Commonwealth's tax friendliness for retirees and great access to volunteer activities for adults.
It also has a high number of dentists per capita.
The study criticized Virginia for having a less temperate climate compared to other states and for having a population younger than 65 and older.
Nearby northern areas did not fare as well, such as Virginia.
Maryland was ranked 42 out of 50 for retirees. Not surprisingly, affordability was the biggest hurdle for seniors in the state. The state ranked very near the bottom in that category. He did decently in accessing healthcare.
WalletHub based the results on a composite score of 47 relevant metrics that included adjusted cost of living, access to public transportation, and healthcare workers per capita.
Wallet Hub said that if you're thinking about moving when you retire, plan ahead to find a place that will maximize your quality of life.
