Por 31 votos a favor, uno en contra y cuatro abstenciones, el Senado respaldó una nueva prórroga al estado de excepción constitucional de emergencia, en la Región de La Araucanía, y las provincias de Arauco y del Biobío, de la Región del Biobío, por la situación de violencia que se vive en la macrozona sur del país.

La nueva solicitud presidencial –que previamente fue aprobada por la Cámara de Diputadas y Diputados- se convierte en la número 29.

Según un comunicado publicado por la cámara, los participantes en el debate previo a la votación han lamentado la violencia ocurrida en Ercilla y Traiguén, en las que se han llegado a quemar escuelas o iglesias.



Además, han pedido avanzar en investigaciones que permitan "adelantarse a los hechos de violencia", que han conducido a "la pérdida de capacidad de asombro que se vive".

El estado de excepción en la Macrozona Sur se encuentra en vigor desde hace más de un año, habiendo sido decretado por el presidente Gabriel Boric el 16 de mayo de 2022.

Ccomunidades y movimientos indígenas organizados por el pueblo mapuche han rechazado la medida, porque alegan que vulnera su autodeterminación, su organización social y la soberanía de sus territorios.
