The Institute of Development and Peace Studies (Indepaz) of Colombia denounced this Saturday the murder of a renowned social leader on Friday night in the department of Cauca.

According to the entity, the victim was identified as Miller Silva Rosero, who at the time of his death was serving as vice president of the El Plateado Central Board and the El Poblado neighborhood, located in Argelia, Cauca.

"On October 20, this leader was leaving training to be sworn in the next elections when he was intercepted, in the sector called Botafogo, by heavily armed men in the rural area of ​​that municipality, who murdered him on the spot," Indepaz pointed out.



Local media report that Silva Rosero received several gunshot wounds and, so far, his murderers have not been identified by the authorities.

In this sense, the police have announced that the case is under investigation to determine who the perpetrators of the incident were, as well as the people involved.

Indepaz, for its part, announced that the Ombudsman's Office issued Early Warning (AT) 047/20 and eight risk consummation letters, where it points out that "the repertoires of violence allow us to glimpse the interest of the armed factions in attacking those processes." that claim rights and oppose any action that they consider harmful".

Likewise, Indepaz counts in its statistics 1,551 leaders murdered since the signing of the agreement and 137 so far in 2023.
