Andy Murray desliza que tenistas rusos jugarán en Wimbledon: "Este año les van a dejar jugar"
El escocés Andy Murray, exnúmero uno del mundo, deslizó que los tenistas rusos y bielorrusos podrán volver a jugar en Wimbledon, tras el veto del año pasado, y que no le parecería “una locura” que así ocurriera.
Los rusos y bielorrusos no pudieron jugar la edición de 2022 del Grande británico por el veto que recibieron tras la invasión de Ucrania. Wimbledon fue el único de los cuatro Grand Slams en llevar a cabo este veto y eso les costó una sanción millonaria por parte de la ATP y la WTA, además de que el torneo no repartió puntos.
Murray, declaró a la cadena inglesa BBC.
Es algo muy complicado y lo siento por los jugadores que no pudieron estar el año pasado. Pero también entiendo cuál es la situación y por qué es tan difícil para Wimbledon tomar una decisión.
Posteriormente, el escocés, tres veces ganador de torneos Grand Slam, agregó.
Por lo que yo entiendo, este año les van a dejar jugar y no me parecería una locura que así fuera. Si Wimbledon toma otra decisión, también lo entendería.
Para aumentar la presión sobre Wimbledon, la ATP y la WTA amenazaron con retirar la licencia a los torneos previos a Wimbledon que se disputan en suelo británico, como Queen’s, lo que supondría un golpe económico muy importante para la federación británica de tenis.
Además, en caso de que se permitiera la participación de rusos y bielorrusos, las sanciones económicas del año pasado se reducirían a la mitad.
