Patria vaccine against covid-19, with more than three years of development
The Patria vaccine against covid-19 led more than three years of development since in 2020 Conahcyt called on the scientific community and the productive sector to present proposals for Mexican vaccine developments against SARS-CoV-2. Among the projects sent, the one from Mexican laboratory Avimexwhose vaccine has since been called Patria.
This project was chosen for its degree of progress, rigor and scientific solidity. The Mexican laboratory determined that a recombinant Newcastle disease virus had the “potential for success” for the vaccine against Covid-19, so the development started from there.
In the preclinical testing applied to various species of animals, the vaccine candidate proved its effectiveness against covid-19, while in the clinical trials carried out to volunteers, the first of them in April 2021, its safety and effectiveness against said virus was confirmed.
After having passed all the tests, the Patria vaccine against covid-19 is in the last phase in which the Cofepris will grant you permission for its use as a reinforcement against the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2.
The Patria vaccine cost 937 million pesos through public-private investment. The federal government invested 422 million 897 thousand 939 pesos for the clinical development of the Mexican dose, while the rest corresponds to the investment provided by the Avimex laboratory.
