Almost 12,000 affected by floods in Esmeraldas, Ecuador | News
Ecuadorian authorities announced Monday that at least 11,750 people have been affected as a result of the severe rains that caused river flooding in the northern province of Esmeraldas.

The Ecuadorian Risk Management Secretariat indicated that 16 people lost their homes and belongings due to the emergency that has affected the provincial capital and the cantons of Atacames, Muisne and Quinindé.
However, the agency reported 2,800 homes affected, 21 schools destroyed, five medical posts damaged, and six rivers overflowing in the aforementioned cantons.
In turn, 16 dangerous events were recorded, including 14 floods, one landslide and one gale. However, despite the complex situation, no fatalities have been reported.
Likewise, the Armed Forces, the National Police, the Risk Management Secretariat and the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion continue to work on evacuation tasks.
The Esmeraldas mayor's office summoned the institutions of the Cantonal Emerging Operations Committee while lamenting the fact that hundreds of people lost everything.
For his part, Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso said that several trucks from Quito, Riobamba and other cities in the country are heading to Esmeraldas with humanitarian aid.
However, the cantonal mayor's office requested donations to guarantee food, water, mattresses, beds, clothing and medicine to care for displaced people when six shelters have been installed.
