Abinader, who has governed the Dominican Republic since 2020, once again became the favorite candidate after achieving 91 percent of the votes in the primaries, according to the Central Electoral Board.

The current ruler for the PRM prevailed well above the pre-candidates Guido GĂłmez Mazara, who achieved 50,221 votes (5.55%); RamĂłn Alburquerque, 19,679 (2.18%), and Delia Ortiz, 12,808 (1.42%).

With this advantage, Abinader is ahead of the presidential elections scheduled for May 19.

Abinader admitted to the PRM militants that he assumes "with humility" the challenge of running again in the presidential elections to support the confidence they gave him in the party's militancy in these primaries.

The head of state congratulated the other pre-candidates, whom he invited to join “with their ideas and leadership” to his political project, while calling for unity to “together continue building a nation of which we can all be proud. a nation that embodies the principles of integrity, effort, democracy and development.”

It is worth noting that in this race the PRM is the only Dominican party that decided to hold primaries to choose its candidates.

After this internal electoral process, Abinader officially becomes the country's first presidential candidate, opting for re-election to office.

In the elections next May, Abinader will face the opposition candidates former president Leonel Fernández, of the People's Force, and Abel Martínez, of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).
