A social leader is assassinated in the department of Meta, Colombia | News
The community leader José Pascual Quevedo Velásquez was assassinated this Monday in the El Diamante neighborhood in San José del Guaviare, the fourth executed in less than 72 hours in the South American country, in the framework of the systematic violence that is registered in Colombia against fighters social.
They denounce another murder of a social leader in Colombia
On this occasion, Quevedo Velásquez was shot down at 9:00 a.m. local time by a group of armed men, who called him to leave an establishment where he was chatting with other colleagues, reported the Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (Indepaz) of Colombia.
The crime was committed in the municipality of Puerto Concordia, in the department of Meta, in south central Colombia.
Quevedo Velásquez was a member of the Guaviare Multiactive Agricultural Cooperative (COOAGROGUAVIARE), Cooperative Organization, Association of Farmers and Workers of the Guayabero River Region (ASCATRAGUA) and Coagro Guaviare in Puerto Concordia, south of Meta.
The Guaviare Police Department announced that two suspects in the attack were captured and referred to the authorities.
The peasant associations in the area demanded that the authorities take immediate action to clarify this new murder of a widely recognized peasant leader in the region.
With this murder, there are 50 social leaders and human rights fighters executed in Colombia during 2022, according to Indepaz
The homicides against social leaders, during the month of March, added a total of 15 and since the signing of the Peace Agreement between the Government and the former guerrilla of the FARC-EP (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – Army of the People), records 1,334 murders, between men and women.
