According to the entity, the deceased were in the age range of 18 to 25 years, and since their identification documents were destroyed by the flames, the relatives had to recognize the corpses found in the Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences Laboratory of the Ecuadorian city.

Given the disastrous fact, the Mayor of Guayaquil, together with the Fire Department and the National Police of Ecuador, carried out the investigation of the center disabled by the relevant local authorities.

“After the evaluations of the structure, the closure seal was placed; We remind citizens that reporting this type of clandestine facility on time saves lives,” the Fire Department said.

In parallel, a group of specialists from the Agency for Quality Assurance of Health Services and Prepaid Medicine (Acess) examined the epidemiology of the clinic, since between January and February 2022, six rehabilitation centers were closed because that represented a risk to the health of those hospitalized.

Thus, the entity indicated that the clinic did not have an emergency exit in the left wing, where the people suffocated by the toxic gas were grouped; It also reported that the place did not comply with the correct handling of disposable materials.
